Mine as well Dan, nobody could play the game like Rios. And there are actually many Rios fans still out there. I think you will enjoy my book about "Marcelo Rios: The Man We Barely Knew" which is an abstract continuation of this article. Thanks for reading and for your comment.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('1000','Scoop Malinowski','Mine as well Dan, nobody could play the game like Rios.
Rios was my favorite player to watch. He moved and hit the ball so (seemingly) effortlessly, that watching him was a real joy. Laver before him, and Federer after him are also incredible in that way.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('998','dan gobeo','Rios was my favorite player to watch.
True Kari. So many players say they had no real friends in tennis. Sampras once played 18 holes of golf with 3 other players and never said ONE word to anyone for 18 holes. Rios was a rebel. He used to stare down opponents off the court. Jan Michael Gambill just told me that yesterday, great story. Hope I can squeeze that story into the final manuscript.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('838','Scoop Malinowski','True Kari.
The ATP Tour is not a social club. Tennis is much like boxing. On court you must hate your opponent, but also at the same time stay very focused and relaxed. You gotta have fun while you suffer!
Un orgullo Chileno. Thank you Rios for the crazy days spent in the streets of Chile waving our flags and chanting your name. I still remember the day you became n. 1. I was 10 years old and my dad and brothers got in our car and honked our horn till late hours of the night only because of YOU. People running and driving their cars like crazy people! haha How I miss celebrating in my native land.
I watch tennis often and not one player has been able to transmit so much emotions on the court like you did. Grande Rios!!!!! Deportista del Bicentenario!
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('382','Pia Gutierrez','Un orgullo Chileno.
I agree with Scoop Malinowski. Marcelo Rios was possibly the best player I've ever seen. I saw him practice, and he hit shots I'll never see again (like a left-handed Federer of sorts - a combination that does not exist outside of Rios). I saw him practice twice in Washington DC, and it was just sick what he could do - in terms of talent, it was unreal. I asked a coach who said he would not overcome some injury in his ankles. I got the sense he didnt like tennis. I told him in Washington that he was my favorite player of all time, but he didnt care much! That's the thing. He enjoyed killing players in practice, and possibly even on the tour. But he didnt seem to like tennis very much.

I've seen so many players. The most talented have to be Rios, Federer, Nadal, and Kuerten - with Sampras and Agassi not far behind. But of all of them, Rios just did stuff I'll never see repeated on a court, ever.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('310','Andrew Miller','I agree with Scoop Malinowski.
Agree exactly. Sampras, Federer, Nadal all awesome to watch but there was something a little more smoother and elegant and fluent and magical in the way Rios performed.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('79','Scoop Malinowski','Agree exactly.
i have watched tennis on TV for many years but have never enjoyed watching anybody as much as Marcelo Rios. He was such a beautiful player. I know many things have been said about him but I always felt that Western journalists were unfair to him. If he had been interviewed in Spanish then maybe they would have understood him better.
I was very disappointed that his career finished through injury and also that he was more or less forced out of the Senior Tour by John McEnroe who everyone bows down to!
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('76','Caroline Meriño','i have watched tennis on TV for many years but have never enjoyed watching anybody as much as Marcelo Rios.
