Status: Cincinnati Reds third baseman.

Ht: 6-4 Wt: 240

DOB: April 4, 1975 In: Evansville, Indiana

Childhood Heroes: “Is it all right to say my brother (Todd)? He’s a school teacher. He’s two years older than me and is the best human being in the world.”

Hobbies/Leisure Activities: “Time with family, golf, basketball, watching movies, playing guitar, reading. I also play a little bit of tennis. I’ll play a month at a time then I won’t play for three years.”

Nicknames: “Potsie Webber (from Happy Days). Can’t do any better than that for you [smiles]. Can’t explain it. Don’t even know how it came about.”

Favorite Movies: “The Godfather series, parts I, II and III.”

Musical Tastes: “Any kind of acoustic music. A lot of instrumental. I like a variety of stuff. I like creative artists.”

Early Baseball Memory: “We were in the state (high school) finals my sophomore year and my brother’s senior year. We played on the same team. I dove for a ball in the state final game and threw it home. But I threw the ball away and we lost. And I remember after the game my brother got me out on the field and he gave me a big hug. Right there on the field. We were crying but in retrospect that was probably the best memory in baseball that I have – and probably ever will have.”

Pre-Game Feeling: “I don’t know. I’m not a real big ritualistic person. I don’t do a lot of the same things all the time. I just try to think about what’s going on and get in the frame of mind as to what need to be done on the field, who’s pitching, what my approach is. Probably more business-like than anything else.”

Favorite Meal: “Barbecue ribs.”

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: “Vanilla.”

Favorite Breakfast Cereal: “Cinnamon Toast Crunch.”

First Job: “Picking up golf balls at the range and cleaning carts at the Jasper Country Club. I was 15.”

First Car: “It was either a ‘74 or ‘76 – can’t remember which year – baby blue Dodge Aspen.”

Greatest Sports Moment: “I already answered that [smiles].”

Favorite Athletes To Watch: “Kevin Sefcik, who played with the Phillies a few years ago. He was a beauty and fun to watch. I liked to watch him play. He was a little scrapper. (NBA?) I don’t follow the NBA a lot. (NHL?) No. (Football?) No. (Boxing?) Nope. (Tennis?) Actually I was a big Yannick Noah fan back in the day. (Golf?) No.”

Toughest Competitors Encountered: “I liked Greg Maddux. He was intense. I liked competing against him.”

People Qualities Most Admired: “Good people that are trying to do the right thing. People that are genuine, honest. No eye wash. No bulls—. No show. A genuine good person that knows if it’s the right thing to do. Not trying to embarrass anybody. Not trying to show anybody up. Not trying to make himself or herself appear better at the expense of someone else.”
