Biofile with Artist Amy Digi  | read this item
Occupation: Artist.
Early Painting Memory: I didn’t paint until I was thirty, however I drew from an early age. I remember I copied images from my younger brother’s Little Golden Books when I was in middle school and then I started life drawing classes in tenth grade.
Inspirations: My Family, Gorton H.S. Art Teacher – Mrs. Turkheimer, Pratt Professors Amy B. Snider, Nancy Ross and Susan Martin.
Hobbies/Interests: Yoga, running, nature – particularly the seaside.
Last Book Read: I read many books at once and these were the last two finished approximately at the same time. Death Be Not Proud by John Gunther and I sold Andy Warhol (Too Soon) by Richard Polsky.
Childhood Dreams: To attend Pratt Institute and travel.
First Job: Stationery/Ice Cream Store.
Favorite Meal: Mostly anything cooked for me.
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Chocolate.
Pre-Work Feeling/Mindset: Arrive on Location, drink a cup of coffee, watch and wait to fall in love with a scene then paint.
Greatest Career Moment: While learning to paint I experienced growing pains which were very frustrating because images were lost in translation. Then everything started to flow smoothly from my eyes, to my heart and out of my hand. That was and is the greatest career moment.
Most Painful Career Moment: Switching careers as a full-time salaried educator to a professional artist.
Favorite Artists: John Singer Sargent, Robert Henri, Egon Schiele, Jenny Saville, and Alex Kanevsky.
Favorite Subjects: Maritime, sunsets/sunrises over water.
Funny Career Memory: I painted at Bethesda Fountain and a younger woman liked my painting. We started talking and she said I looked familiar. So we go through that list of questions when one is trying to place a face, it turns out I was her art teacher at Bryant High School in Queens.
Embarrassing Career Memory: Arriving at my first day of Joseph Peller’s outdoor painting class and not being able to open my French easel properly.
Favorite Movies: Cool Hand Luke, Amelie, Goodfellas, Life is Beautiful, and Breakfast at Tiffiany’s.
Future Project/Dream Project: To travel and lecture on art while painting in those locations.
People Qualities Most Admired: Warm hearts, big smiles, and a grand sense of humor.
Favorite Quotations: “You only have one life, which, though brief, is long enough if you use it well.” Drinking the Rain Alix Kates Shulman…”Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” President John F. Kennedy.
“Blunder ahead with your own personal view.” The Art Spirit, Robert Henri.
