I did this interview with Heavyweight boxer Andrew Golota for a Harley Davidson enthusiast magazine. Check it out:
Question: How did you become introduced to Harley Davidson motorcycle riding?
Andrew Golota: ”A friend of mine in Florida was ready to buy the Ultra Classic Electra Glide. I used to borrow the Harley from him to ride. I decided to get my own. In 1993. When I drive mine I like to be dressed like a Harley man. I buy the outfits. I ride to the Harley motor club (Sokol Motorcycle Club). We have the MC emblem on our jacket. Bikers are like a different world. Different kind of people. They stick together.”
Question: What’s the appeal of Harley Davidson?
Andrew Golota: ”The name. Everyone loves a Harley. It’s reliable. As long as you maintain it runs forever. It’s comfortable. Nice bike.”
Question: Your greatest Harley moment?
Andrew Golota: ”The best feeling on the Harley is when you’re riding on the road and nothing is around. It’s always nice with a group of bikers. Driving by yourself is nice – you’re free. You feel freedom when you ride.”
Question: Can you share a Harley experience?
Andrew Golota: ”When we went to Milwaukee, 100th anniversary. I came with a whole group, 200-300 bikers from Chicago. Saw thousands of bikers there, had a good time. It’s always nice when you go on a big rally. Went to Daytona, that was one of them. In 2000.”
Question: Favorite Harley?
Andrew Golota: ”My bike is my favorite one. Mine is 90th anniversary of the Harley. My bike is custom made. Bigger engine, a lot of chrome. Extra lights. Put a lot of stuff in my baby.”
Question: Talk about some of your Harley journeys?
Andrew Golota: ”I went on one to San Antonio, Texas for a training camp in 2000. Stayed there. Then I went to Florida in a training camp. I got my driver and put my Harley in the truck. I drove to Denver from Chicago.”
Question: Anything else you can say about Harley, any other memories?
Andrew Golota: ”I could never imagine how you could fall asleep on the bike. Riding back from Florida – West Palm Beach to Key West – and you know what? I almost fell asleep on the way back. It was so smooth a ride, so nice. The only thing that bothers me is the speed limit. You can’t go fast on these things any more. I got speeding tickets all over the country.”
Question: How many?
Andrew Golota: ”We won’t discuss that [smiles].”
