Hobbies/Interests: “I go to dance class. And ballet, yoga and kickboxing class.”
Favorite Movies: “I go every once in a while. I went to the premier of Moulin Rouge. Everyone was so dressed up. The Sixth Sense was good.”
Musical Tastes: “It so varies. I love Madonna, hip-hop, Sade, Lauryn Hill and Prince is definitely one of my favorites.”
Funny Career Memory: “My friend Anna was at an Ellen Tracy runway show rehearsal. She was sitting on top of the piled up chairs, all stacked up. She leaned over to her bag to get a piece of gum and all the chairs fell over like dominoes. And she was on the floor on her butt [smiles]. And everyone turned to look and they were all laughing at her.”
Childhood Dream: “I wanted to grow up, have a nice, big house, maybe have some kids. Just wanted to have my own things. And things have worked out pretty well. I live in New York City, alone in my own apartment. I’m young and doing my own thing.”
Pre-Shoot Feeling: “You have to feel good about yourself. The camera picks up on your mood. You know what the job requires. You have to feel beautiful because that’s what they want. If I wake up feeling not so hot, I exercise to get my energy up. I do yoga, breathe – that usually always works. Gets my energy up. Then when I get there, in the setting, I’m ready.”
Greatest Career Moment: “The first catalog I had done. I was on the cover of the swimsuit catalog for Hey Baby of California. They didn’t tell me I was going to be on the cover. Just handed me the catalog and I was on the cover. So that was a great moment for me. That really, really blew my mind. I also did a modeling competition in New York at the Waldorf Astoria. And I placed in just about everything I competed in. It was a week long, I worked really hard and came away with a lot of awards – swimsuit, runway, photography, soap opera, commercial, voice over. And legs. I won that [laughs]. I remember I was so happy.”
Most Painful Moment: “I don’t think I’ve had a really painful moment. It is tough when you go around to agencies when you don’t have one. And they’re just really blunt and honest and they talk to you like they don’t care at all about your feelings. (My former agency Click said), Oh, we think you have bad hair. Or, Oh, we think you should lose ten pounds. Maybe their just having a bad day. You try not to make it personal. That’s kind of tough. There’s a lot of rejection. You have to be able to take it.”
First Job: “When I was in fifth grade I used to sell pretzels in my old neighborhood in Philadelphia [laughs]. Sell with my friends. There were a lot of factories there. We’d buy them from a pretzel factory for ten cents and sell them for 25 cents. It was really cute.”
Favorite Vacation Spot: “Definitely the beach. The beach, any beach. Margate Beach in New Jersey. Miami.”
Last Halloween Costume: “I was a black cat.”
People Qualities Most Admired: “I like a person who’s real. Just have to be real. Fake isn’t good.”
