Status: Former NFL head coach for New York Giants, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots. Inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame this weekend.

DOB: August 22, l94l In: Englewood, NJ

Childhood Heroes: “Growing up in New York, baseball was prominent. Willie, Mickey and the Duke, those were the guys.”

Toughest Competitors Encountered: “Lawrence Taylor, Phil Simms, Maurice Carthon, Mark Bavaro, Steve Nelson, some of my college player.”

All Time Favorite TV Show: “The Jackie Gleason Show.”

Early Football Memory: “I remember my high school coach Tom Cahill, his philosophy, his approach to people, how he tried to go about coaching. It was one where his expectations for you were higher than your own.”

Favorite Movies: “Guns Of Navarone, Gunfight At the OK Corral, Last of the Mohicans. I like to be entertained, not to figure out something.”

Hobbies/Interests: “Athletic recreation, working out, golf, fish. I’m not that well-diversified.”

First Job: “A roofer. I put shingles on houses for three summers.”

First Car: “’53 Ford hardtop convertible V-8 overdrive. Powder blue with a cream top, with ’55 Dodge Spinner hubcaps, ’55 Oldsmobile tail lights.”

Favorite Vacation Spot: “Usually the beach area. I love the ocean. I have a home in Jupiter, FL. Of course I love the Jersey Shore. And I like to go to Saratoga Racetrack in Saratoga Springs, NY.”

Greatest Sports Moment: “The moment was waiting in the tunnel for the player introductions for the first Super Bowl in Pasadena. The tunnel was enclosed. You could look out there and see l00,000 people. The whole thing. That is something that was very memorable, very vivid for me.”

Most Painful Moment: “All losses. Probably losing to Los Angeles (’98 in NFC SF game) in Giants Stadium. I thought we had that game and let it slip away.”

Most Treasured Possession: “My two Super Bowl rings. I’m not too nostalgic. But I’d like not very much to lose those.”

Best Book Read: “I’m really not a reader.”

People Most Admired: “John F. Kennedy. Harry Truman.”

Future Ambitions: “I really don’t think about that too much. I guess, go to some places that I haven’t been to like Lake Tahoe and to Europe. And to do some things that I haven’t done like fly fish in Montana.”
